Gerald Kenneth “Ken” Seaman passed away on the morning of December 6, 2011. Ken was a Board member for several years and was a familiar face at numerous functions including being the bartender at the Flip Flop Hop and a volunteer at The Buddy Walk and Family Picnic.
Ken was born in California where he lived most his life. Ken moved to Asheville in 1998, where he made a home with his beautiful wife and daughter. He worked in the printing field for many years, last at the Great Smokies Diagnostic Labs here in Asheville. He later went to work for the WNC Group Homes for Autistic Persons as a facilities manager. In his free time, he enjoyed hiking, volunteering and fund raising, and he was very involved in his daughter’s sports activities.
Ken lived one year after being diagnosed with melanoma in December 2010. Regarding his treatment, Ken said: “I gave it my best shot and nothing worked.” He worked full-time for nine months after being diagnosed and continued to attend WNCDSA board meetings and put together the newsletters until September 2011.
Ken passed away on December 6thwith his wife and three children by his side. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Teresa; daughter Kaeli of Asheville, a daughter and son, Jessica and Erik Seaman of Colorado, and sister Cheryl Cook of Wrightwood, California.
We are thankful for having known Ken and been graced with his warmth and generosity of heart for many years. He was a kind and compassionate man who could always be counted on, a hands-on helper whenever needed. He will be greatly missed.
